iPhone activation tips: What you’ll need

Your iPhone

Have your iPhone handy and turned on. The SIM is already installed.

Activation code

The activation code is located in the activation booklet included with your phone.

ICCID number

Find the ICCID number on the back of the iPhone box. During the online set up, enter the ICCID number into the SIM card field when it is displayed.

Sim number

iPhone number (IMEI)

You will also need the iPhone IMEI number to complete the setup process. It can be found on the back of the box or on your iPhone by tapping on Settings> General> About, and scrolling down to the IMEI section.

If you don't have the original box, you can get the IMEI number by dialing *#06# on the phone you want to activate.

You’ll need to know the phone number that you wish to transfer from another carrier or from an existing T-Mobile line to your new pay in advance plan.

Using your own phone? You’ll need a T-Mobile SIM Starter Kit, which contains a new SIM card and activation code.

Insert the mini SIM card and battery into the phone. Charge the phone so it’s ready to use once activated.

Locate the phone serial (IMEI) number on the box your phone came in. It’s also inside the phone, under the battery.

Activation tips for Tablet or Hotspot

To activate your tablet

  1. Insert the T-Mobile SIM card into your tablet then turn on or restart.
  2. Turn off Wi-Fi in your device settings. Turn on mobile data in your device settings
  3. From your tablet’s Internet browser:
    1. Go to T-Mobile.com/ConnectMe
    2. Follow the on-screen steps to complete activation
  4. From your iPad:
    1. Go to the home screen > Settings > Cellular Data > View Account
    2. Follow on-screen steps to complete activation

To activate your hotspot

  1. Insert the T-Mobile SIM card into hotspot
  2. Use a different device (laptop, tablet, phone) to connect to your hotspot’s Wi-Fi signal
  3. Go to T-Mobile.com/ConnectMe
  4. Follow steps to activate data service for your hotspot
